The farmhouse was rented out via Airbnb and Booking quite a few times during the period from late June to early November 2024. We are extremely happy about this, especially with the enthusiasm and positive feedback from our guests. At the moment, we’ve temporarily paused the rental due to reasons like heating costs and some minor renovations. The ground-floor toilet is being replaced, and a new floor will be installed! The upstairs and wooden floors are also getting a fresh coat of paint.
A new central heating boiler, which is 30% more efficient, will be installed soon. Hopefully, this will reduce heating costs during the colder months.
We also want to renovate the bathroom, but we’re not sure yet when or how this will happen.
For the Gatehouse, we’re working on adding a small kitchenette on the first floor. This will save us from constantly running downstairs for a cup of tea. Another reason is the temperature: while there’s a large kitchen on the ground floor, it has no radiators. In winter, cooking there requires wearing a coat (last winter, it was so cold in the kitchen that the olive oil solidified!).
Roof insulation and asbestos removal are also planned for 2025. However, we need to consider the bats living in the barn, so we’ll hear soon whether and when this will be possible.
